In short:
My first foray into slightly tougher marathon courses ended up at the top of the Gornergrat in Switzerland with a view of the Matterhorn.

In full:
Coming off the back of a 2:28 PB in Valencia last December, I decided that maybe there is life beyond what - some may say, but not me - are pancake flat, easy PB courses (previous hilliest course: London in 2017). Starting off early on a sunny morning, a pleasant first half was covered in 1:30 (1,700ft of climbing), but then I then hit a few bits of hillier terrain, which saw me bag a slightly positive split to pass through the full marathon distance in 3:43 (4,700ft ascent in the second half). I then opted to top up the pleasant experience with an extra two miles and 1,700ft of ascent. Overall it took a somewhat tougher than anticipated 4:22:27 for 45.5km and 8,100ft of ascent. Still 5th overall and 1st in the V40 age group was a pleasing result.
