MK Marathon Weekend

Date:
05/05/2019
Country:
Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Distance:
5km, half-marathon, Marathon
Choice of half and full marathon, marathon relay, 5k and 2.62k fun run over the weekend of 5/6 May. Consistently ranked in the top 10 UK marathons, the MK Marathon starts from StadiumMK. The majority of the route is incredibly green and scenic and includes tree lined boulevards, beautiful parks and lakes, picturesque villages and the canal towpath, and offers a truly spectacular experience for our runners - and a magical stadium finish! The Half shares the same start and stadium finish, but bears right at mile 7 into the lush Ouzel Valley, following the beautiful, meandering River Ouzel. Quality tech tee and goodie bag for all half and marathon finishers. The Rocket 5k is a fun, easy 5k from Midsummer Boulevard to the stadium perimeter road, with great PB potential.

First marathon - pipped by my club mate

In full:
A bitter sweet marathon. Really pleased with the time for my first marathon as was aiming for anything under 3 hours but felt really good on the day. My Burnham Joggers clubmate Patrick passed me on mile 25 just as the stadium came into view. Naturally, I stuck with him and when we entered the stadium we kicked... I passed him, he passed me back, I put in one last surge and passed him again, only for him to kick again and finish one second ahead of me, epic!

In short:
Concrete cows, men dressed as cows and a cow medal.

It’s taken 81 marathons, but I finally got under 4 hours, with a 13 minute PB. Loved the support on route and the stadium finish.

In short:
My first marathon, fortunately my husband and I both smashed into the wall at different points so we managed to keep up a shuffle to finish together.
