What a day

The 5th running of the roos marathon. Having my buddy Lonneke Reger come 12,000 from Scotland all the way to Kangaroo Island..... the weather in preceding days was shocking gale force winds resulting in cancelling ferries transporting many runners to the island etc proving lots of headaches for race organisers. However race morning we woke to find calmer winds and no rain.... the day continued in this manner. A very tough hilly course but we agreed to run together and this was a last long run for me pre chicago.... we had everything weather wise and i loved the 5th marathon as much as i loved the first one. The only way i could completely convince her to come all this way was to give her my runner no 1 bib which i have had for the past four events and a guaranteed total elite experience of the ki marathon... this seems to have continued long past the marathon I'm still opening her beers and cooking dinner.... great day great adventure wild running at its best ...love KI

In short:
K.I. Marathon .. near enough as legendary as the MT ever present Sue Pearson who praised this event ever since it launched 5 years ago. And quite rightly she did! Super friendly event with an impressive high contingent of locals. Pain is indeed temporary, memories of this weekend will stay with me for years to come!

Definitely one of my hilliest road marathon with near enough 900m ascents along pancake flat rolling hills. Though neither the hills nor the mixed bag of weather & at times strong winds could take anything away from running through one of the last few remaining hidden treasures ...all the way down to the shores of the Southern Ocean! Wow! I never before took pictures during a race, however during the K.I. it seemed I was doing more snapping than running. Sorry, Sue ...but that’s what you get for taking a tourist out to run a marathon. Cheers mate!
