Hameldown Hammer

Date:
24/02/2019
Country:
Widecombe-in-the-Moor, Devon
Distance:
half-marathon
Two tough but scenic races which start and finish from the iconic Dartmoor village of Widecombe-in-the-Moor, at the foot of the Hameldown ‘massif’. The Hammer is a challenging race, designed to be a serious test of endurance - 98% trail over well defined, grassy, rocky, sometimes muddy tracks, through forestry glades, with a total ascent of over 600m. Most significantly, there is a double ascent of the Hameldown Ridge…. The Hammer rises high and steep; it affords spectacular views of the moor and tors, with some of the best trail running Dartmoor has to offer. A shorter race, Hameldown 7EVEN - the ‘Long 10k’ - has 300m+ of ascent and still includes a double ascent of the Hameldown Ridge.
