City to Sea Ultra & Marathon

Exeter, Devon
Marathon, Ultra
Two challenging routes will take you along country lanes, up and over cliff tops, along riverside paths, along beaches, into woodland and more. A 34 mile ultra starts from Exeter Quayside and winds its way to Berry Head in Brixham before heading to Torquay and finally up to Babbacombe Downs for the finish line and event village. A 26.5 mile run/walk marathon also starts from Exeter Quayside, then takes a more direct but still very scenic route to Babbacombe Downs and the event village, where there will be live music, family entertainment, stalls, games and more. Relay options for both events.

In short:
My slowest ever marathon, what a course (a declared 26.5), with over 2,600 feet of ascent, virtually ALL the ascent was in the final 5 miles, the South West Coast Path at it's most cheeky. Check points with drinks, cake, prepared fruit and pork pies. At the finish, complimentary fish and chips, hot drinks, more snacks and a bar Some very committed performances

In full:
I've never clambered over so many steps, all uneven, I struggled along with my 17 min mile pace, keeping the UTMB peeps in my head for balance. Many competitors had a "run to Shaldon, (at mile 21) then remove watch"strategy; fantastic views and organisation by Torbay Helping Hands Network; very helpful marshals. The beautiful finishers medal was so heavy (9oz/250g) I had to take it off. I was 4th Lady overall in the Marathon. There was also a 34 Mile ultra, please check out their performances online (results not out yet, but due)
